In December 2025, a group of 25 global civil society organizations shared its recommendations strengthening the IFC Performance Standard 6 (PS6) to better protect biodiversity and ecosystems. Based on lessons from IFC-funded projects, the organizations argue that current safeguards allow serious biodiversity damage, including habitat loss, ecosystem disruption, and species decline. In particular, the recommendations aim to align PS6 with the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, whose objective is to halt and reverse biodiversity loss while protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
