About the project
The IFC has launched a webpage where it compares myths and ‘truths’ about the livestock sector, praising the benefit of the sector’s expansion. However, most of the claims made on the webpage are allegedly false and ignore what civil society groups have been asking the IFC to acknowledge for a long time: the expansion of industrial livestock farming will exacerbate the climate crisis and cause great suffering at the E&S levels, without bringing real benefits in terms of food security – and potentially even worsening it. Despite being informed by the Stop Financing Factory Farming (S3F) Coalition members, with the support of documented evidence, about the adverse impacts of industrial animal agriculture, the IFC did not take any action to remove the false claims from the webpage that activists worldwide expressed serious concerns about. The IFC claims to engage in respectful and good faith dialogues with stakeholders. However, launching a ‘Sustainable Livestock’ webpage that lists the arguments raised by CSOs as ‘Myths’, after years of discussions, is simply outrageous. At the time of writing, the IFC refused to meaningfully engage with concerned CSOs in relation to this.
